With all the recent discussion about the accuracy of the Daily Report, I took a peak this morning and caught this gem regarding White Heat:
"Look for some serious expansion over the coming days as we drop the ropes on the longest steepest widest lift-serviced trail in the East."
I'm not challenging that claim, per se, but I'd love to see the topographical data collected from all the mountains in the East that support it and would be interested to see the "top five" trails.

Not the longest in the east. Not the steepest in the east. Not the widest in the east.
The longest steepest widest lift-serviced trail in the east.
(Compound adjective)
Permalink Reply by Hawk on January 4, 2012 at 10:31am Rippy, over the years this has been depated to nausium. The general consensus is that the trail is singularly none of these but if you put all three parameters together into the equation it is true. So if you can find a trail that is as wide, as long and as steep, I will give you a cup of coffee. ;-)
Permalink Reply by jerryg on January 4, 2012 at 10:58am This was a joint venture between Skip King and LBO and both Hawk and Sitz are right on the money. White Heat was SR's answer to Outer Limits and the marketing on this was fantastic at the time, IMO. I doubt there is any expert skier that would consider WH to be all that challenging, but apparently that 'compound adjective' is true as no resort has really ever seriously questioned the validity of the statement, per my recognition.
Either all of that or they just wanted to give Rippy a reason to start another debate... 23 years after the fact... Where you been on this one?

PS: Thought I'd crank up an oldie, while we're waiting for snow !

Permalink Reply by Hawk on January 4, 2012 at 11:11am The equation is this: Find all the trails in the east that are as long as white heat or longer. Then cross off all the trails that are not as wide. Then cross off all the trails that are not as steep (Average Pitch over the entire length of trail). Wala!!!! You have White Heat. That is how it was described to me.

Permalink Reply by MonkeyBrook on January 4, 2012 at 11:24am I didnt say there wasnt data, just suggested that no one will be showing you the data...its 23 year old marketing stuff...just go with it...like going to the movies, "willing suspension of disbelief".
No place up at SL yet, thinking more like SB as they have a big lake.

Permalink Reply by Ripsaw on January 4, 2012 at 11:38am SB.....much better skiing than where you are now and a much better four season resort than both SR and SL.
