Started out with a jerky ride up Tempest around 10 AM.  Barker was down, so we headed over to South Ridge.  Learned that only South Ridge, Northpeak, and Spruce lifts were running over that way.  No White Heat, Aurora, Jordan.  Almost got blown off unloading at Northpeak, so we went over to Spruce.  After one run, Spruce was shut down.  We took Roadrunner back over to White Cap figuring that, as much as we hate it, our sole option was now Tempest.  However Tempest and Little White Cap were down, too.  At this point we said, "Screw it" and hiked back up to the Summit.  Figured we'd sit in the pool until the wind let up.  But the power was out at the Summit.  So were all the lifts down because of the wind, a power failure, or both?  And what caused the power failure?  Felt sorry for all the poor blokes sitting on the various lifts.

Power failure--just in time.  We were on Tempest, and it was swaying pretty good.  Bummer we couldn't hit the hot tub after though.

A bunch of lifts were down for wind hold. I too went over to Tempest - even tho the short power outages at my house should have alerted me (I'm on SR's power feed). By the time we got there - all power was out. I heard that one of the lines went down. SR has 2 major power feeds - so their power can be rerouted. Power came back after about a half hour and eventually a few lifts re-opened. Then mid afternoon - the power went out again for about an hour. I don't see any lifts running right now (around 5:00) but they have the lights on - so they may be expecting to reopen something soon. The news said Mt Washington had 100 mph gusts.

We worked on our tans while sitting on spruce...
The last run down was actually worth it!
Never saw a person as everything below was cleared out before we reached the top.

Standing in line at SRQ w/ Dominic and MHS folks and all I hear is

BOOM< BOOM<BOOM

and I look to see a little puff of smoke over the top of SR condo's

I said "OK guys, lets start walking...."

Glad they got it worked out and thought it was good service to leave Number 6 & 8 open an extra 1.5 hours and basically free night skiing.

Hi guys,

We had challenges with wind for a good portion of the day and had to keep some lifts on wind hold.  On top of that, at approximately 10:30am a tree limb fell on a power line at the resort owned by Central Maine Power.  It took CMP about an hour to restore power, during which time our mountain operations team used auxiliary power to unload all guests who were on lifts at the time of the outage.

We extended all lift tickets be valid until 8pm, and ran the Spruce Peak Triple and North Peak Express lifts until 5:30 to offer additional terrain.

Thanks for everyone's flexibility and cooperation on Friday.

Nick

this was our yearly trip to SR and we were there Thur - Sun.   Twice we were on lifts that stopped!   We were on the North Peak chair about 5 chairs from unloading at around 3:30ish when the power went out for the 2nd time.   Also tough to have all those other lifts on wind hold all day.   The rest of the trip was great and it was a real contrast between the warmth on Thur and Fri and the colder Sat and Sun temps.
