Permalink Reply by siamez on March 18, 2011 at 5:11pm A bunch of lifts were down for wind hold. I too went over to Tempest - even tho the short power outages at my house should have alerted me (I'm on SR's power feed). By the time we got there - all power was out. I heard that one of the lines went down. SR has 2 major power feeds - so their power can be rerouted. Power came back after about a half hour and eventually a few lifts re-opened. Then mid afternoon - the power went out again for about an hour. I don't see any lifts running right now (around 5:00) but they have the lights on - so they may be expecting to reopen something soon. The news said Mt Washington had 100 mph gusts.
Standing in line at SRQ w/ Dominic and MHS folks and all I hear is
BOOM< BOOM<BOOM
and I look to see a little puff of smoke over the top of SR condo's
I said "OK guys, lets start walking...."
Glad they got it worked out and thought it was good service to leave Number 6 & 8 open an extra 1.5 hours and basically free night skiing.
Permalink Reply by Sunday River on March 19, 2011 at 9:46am Hi guys,
We had challenges with wind for a good portion of the day and had to keep some lifts on wind hold. On top of that, at approximately 10:30am a tree limb fell on a power line at the resort owned by Central Maine Power. It took CMP about an hour to restore power, during which time our mountain operations team used auxiliary power to unload all guests who were on lifts at the time of the outage.
We extended all lift tickets be valid until 8pm, and ran the Spruce Peak Triple and North Peak Express lifts until 5:30 to offer additional terrain.
Thanks for everyone's flexibility and cooperation on Friday.
Nick
