A big thank you to SR ski patrol!  Just as we went out on our first trail today, first day of skiing for both of my sons', one of my son's went airborne (we think, I did not see), but skis, poles, hat, googles were far away from him!  Ski patrol, clinic, ambulance, emergency room (love Stephen's Memorial emergency staff!!), CAT scan (small bruise on brain discovered), consult with neorsurgeon......home with 48 hours to watch.  Long day, BUT ski patrol and all of SR staff was great!!  Thank you, thank you for keeping all of us (especially me!) calm and taking such great care of my son!!

FYI: Called a "Yard Sale" when you fall and drop everything all over the place. Most of us have had one and I hope your boy recovers from it quickly. The SR Ski Patrol are an amazing group who care about the hill and those of us on it. Props to them all!

Also something you posted concerns me greatly... "hat"
I have had a major concussion due to a baseball injury, one of the worst things in my life (and I survived a divorce, cancer and four Bills Super Bowls losses!). I skied for years with no helmet (10+ years without falling) and the day AFTER I bought mine I crashed off an icy Vortex head first into a tree. It almost certainly saved me.

Please get your kids and you a helmet, don't ski without one. Wish your son all the best and hope to see him on the slopes soon.
Happy to hear all has turned out positive. Hope the whole family is out skiing together again soon!
In a bad situation you were in the best of hands. Glad your son is going to be alright.
The helmet suggestion was a good one. Not only for your son but sitzmark too!
Helmets are definitely a must. My other son wears one, he did ski patrol with Gould Academy. The "crasher" has one but did not wear yesterday. I do not have one, but will be getting one before I ski again. Lesson learned for me, you never know.
Glad the tyke's OK. BUT Having a helmet and not wearing it just plain stupid. That's the same mentality as not wearing your seatbelt because you're only going a short distance.... Where do most vehicular fatalities occur ????? Within a few miles of home.....

Not a Neurosurgeon, but do have 25 years experience treating Pediatric head trauma - Helmets are the #1 best thing to happening in skiing/riding....
We learned a few lessons yesterday, yes one was the helmet, most important, the other was skiing on man made ungroomed snow is a WHOLE different ballgame!! And I have been skiing at SR since I was a young teen. With the snowmaking capabilities expanded, it's totally different than skiing on a trail that has had consistent snow spread across. What happened to my son was he went into what was a "gully" near the lift at Spruce, which probably would not have been there with natural snow. Certainly not blaming anyone, so please don't go down that unpleasant path!! The trail was not groomed, so what appeared to be skiing on powder, was not because of snow making, some large piles of powder, and then no snow, just ice. Just a lesson for me in skiing on manmade ungroomed trails. I should have checked the site to see what was groomed and what was not. My fault, bottom line, AND without the manmade snow, no skiing!!
Lots of variable conditions out there this time of year. Powder, ice, bumps, death cookies, sticky, dry, etc. Lots of speeding teens out there too
Glad all turned out well!!!

I have been telling my kids that wearing a helmet is the LAW since their first day on the slopes.
Also keep the patrol # in all our cell phones: 207-824-5350

Hope the rest of the season is safe!!!

Nice job Patrol, we saw a bad crash on Risky today...women was down. We dialed up Patrol and 30 seconds later (Paul the Patroller) was buzzing Risky and was there to help...

Escape, our thoughts are with your son...hope all is OK.

What makes patrol really amazing is that ALOT of these do it for free. I love my job but I would definitely wouldn't do it for free.
So glad to hear things are going in the right direction!!! And props to SR staff and everyone else involved in getting you to where you needed to be at the right time!!! :)
Sunday River has a great mountain plan. The responses of the ski patrol make that abundantly clear! It makes me feel more comfortable skiing here after all the good stuff I keep hearing. Glad I bought here.

Escape. I hope your son is back to his normal self in very short order. It sounds like it was a scarry time, and I'm glad things are looking up and up!
Patrollers are ski gods!

The entire support network behind SR is excellent. Some personal experience and some friend's. In fact was looking for a fallen comrade on Saturday and was able to get an update in the clinic even though he was not transported there.
