Trail Report for 6-18-10

We are finally just one week from opening day and the trails are looking mint! The trail crew has been out since the first of June raking and revamping the trail system and they are chomping at the bit to get out and test the product. You can expect to fine some new jumps, bridges and even some new lines on the hill.

Some of the standouts are the lower portion of Crater trail on which all the berms are bigger and has seen some reshaping throughout the whole section. Catch ‘em, our blast from the past and one of the original trails here, has undergone major reconstruction with a ton of rock armoring and stone work done to get it riding better than it has in years. Tango and Crash, last year’s new kid on the block is riding more machine-built than ever with buffer berms, smother lines, and numerous places to get your tires off the ground; this is going to be a fast one!

Going forward, we are looking at a new expert trail off the top, bringing back to life the old “island trail” 229 on the lower mountain and an extension of our Keep it Going jump trail. Very soon we can expect to see a skills park under the lift with some of the winter elements incorporated into it.

Keep in mind, just because you don’t have a bike fit for the Sunday River Bike Park doesn’t mean that you can join in the fun too; check out our new fleet of Kona Garbanzo Stinky rental bikes built to take all the abuse your can throw at them.

Hope to see you out on the trails and remember to look before you leap.

Steve

Glad to here the updates 229. Can't wait to see all the new work. Catch'em has needed attention for a long time now. One more week, then on the lift again. Ye-ha.

One question. Will the lift be running on Monday July 5?

Thanks

That is a good question...

I'll get back to you.
The bike park will not be open Monday, July 5th.
Did you guys ever build a pump track?? I know that was in the plans, haven't heard if you completed it.

I'll be up for some riding this week.

Thanks.

back on topic...?!?!

The pumptrack is not completed at this time. We have it layed out and are working on getting dirt trucked to the location.

Great video Steve (tvdave youtube link) hopefully by end of summer my knee is good enough to get into the park again. Improvements look great, especially Crater. Love that trail. Darcy's post on riding all of Sunday rivers fire roads/trails was interesting. She didn't say whether riding that without taking the lift required a lift pass. Does it?

Thanks, I guess I'll have to check it out from the home computer (darrn nanny filter @ work) This is the first I've heard of it. Where did you find it?

Dave posted the link in the fun weekend thread: http://community.sundayriver.com/forum/topics/fun-weekend

Link to Darcy's post: http://community.sundayriver.com/forum/topics/bethel-bike-trail

"Until then we invite everyone to take advantage of the many miles of official trails and dozens of miles of informal trails, logging roads, and dirt roads that traverse our 11,000 acres."
Depends on when you access our trails and where. If you're riding any of our maintained trails at the resort or using the Chondola to ride on our maintained trails at the resort, there is a bike park ticket required from 10-4 p.m. Friday through Sunday (our summer hours of operation): http://www.sundayriver.com/EventsActivities/Mountain_Biking.html

The informal trails - logging roads and dirt roads that I referred to in the original post speak to our overall resort footprint of 11,000 acres that extends past Newry into Riley. At this time these trails are not maintained by Sunday River and can be accessed at any time without a ticket.
Also...

A big hand to 229 and crew for snapping some spectacular photos of the park this week:
