95 Southbound in the Wells/Ogunquit area had a major state revenue production project in place around 10am.  I counted 10 cruisers marked and un-marked lined up for chase downs.  Did not see "the van" so they maybe picking them off from the air.  My radar detector didn't make a peep, fortunately I was going Northbound.

So keep your nose to the air for the smell of bacon,

I find if you keep it under 10 over the limit, they watch but do nothing. Best way to avoid a ticket is don't speed. Your detector requires someone in front of you being tagged. If you get tagged it is too late.

BTW, Please dont' step on the brakes and go UNDER the limit just because there is a trap or a cop on the side. Going from 75 to 55 because people are STUPID is just, well, STUPID.
Maybe if people didn't drive 10 over you wouldn't have to worry about cops. Seriously. It's there for a reason.

Can't wait to hear the replys.
Go with the flow.
Just dont get stuck behind Aunt Flo.
Just make sure your not the fastest one in the group.
A speeding decoy with out of state plates ahead of you works well too. ;)

Intersate highways were designed for vehicle travel anywhere from 60-80mph. A universal speed of 55 was set during the gas "crisis". Then, the feds allowed states to reset speed limits but tied them to federal highway funds....so there is no incentive for a state to increase beyond 65. Much like states who were "illegally" coerced into having to adopt a 21yo drinking age or face loss of funds (a Reagan thing, and I liked Reagan). Speeding tickets issued for 66-79mph in ME is nothing more than revenue generation period. I remember driving my mother's Oldsmobile 98 77mph on the ME turnpike - oh so smooth...Thanks MS69 for posting.
"9 is fine...over 10 and you're mine."
That's what a cop friend told me.
The state also uses laser now, and many older radar detectors don't pick it up.
White van is usually parked up on the overpass before you see all the chase cruisers lined up.
Just try stopping that beast from 75mph. Well over 200 feet required, probably more like 250.... I have a similar vehicle, and yes it sure cruises nice at those speeds, but it is NOT SAFE by any means at 75-80mph....

Now a days, everyone is doing way too much multitasking behind the wheel, and not concentrating on keeping their eyes on the road. The Boyz in Blue are only doing their jobs, and I think it makes everyone "think" a little bit when they see the Big Blue Conga Line w/ 3-4 casualties on the side of the road.

Go to Germany - take a spin on the Autobahn at 120+.... No cell phones allowed for a very good reason - People don't survive crashes at those kinds of speeds.....

33 years without a ticket or warning till I drove the Maine Turnpike. Any other state would have given me warnings, not these ----------!
word of advice, don't lead, don't follow, stay in between the plates from vacationland and go with the flow.
I have seen the "go with the flow" many times, and I have seen Taxachusettes cops pull the middle guy out for a ticket. What are you going to do in court, tell the judge everyone was speeding? I think they look for the type of car or the plates on the car but there is no rime or reason for them to stop ONE and not the group.
BTW, Beamers, Benz and other cars, along with RED cars are more likely to be stopped than say my minivan.
Funny - the Cops are always a pain in the @$$ - until YOU NEED them. Gotta say the ME Troopers have always been helpful and courteous when I needed them. You guys keep ripping up the Turnpike, that's 1 less ticket they need from me!
Whatever happened to "To Protect and Serve?"

The OP is right. This is being done to generate revenue for The State. That's not the job of the police. By concentrating such a large force, they thin the coverage everywhere else.
You're bitter.
The Police aren't out trying to make $ for the State, they're attempting to make the highways safer by fining those drivers who don't obey the posted speed limits. If you've got to drive over 72mph on the highway to get somewhere on time, then it's your own fault if you get ticketed.

I also have a hard time believing you have any idea what the logistical arrangements are for the MESP either... I never go far on the State's highways withouts seeing a baby blue cruiser somewhere.
