Mike... Google "TSUNAMI".
A tsunami is a major displacement of water, not a "wave"
Thoughts, prayers, and positive vibes to the folks in Japan. Terrible news.

Crazy footage !! The news said 6 foot waves are heading to Hawaii,20-30 foot waves hit those beaches every day.Do they mean a 6 foot surge that would make a MUCH bigger wave when it hits ?

Simple Terms: a 5' tsunami means the Sea/Ocean rises 5' at a VERY high rate of speed.
Positive Vibes...

Permalink Reply by MaiTai on March 11, 2011 at 12:05pm For atleast a little while I will not be complaining about NCP, since I'm grateful it's not a NCT (Non Crystalized Tsunami)!
Make me think of some 'Rain is a good thing' lyrics:
Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey,
Whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky
...
Rain is a good thing ..
