+1.  (I bet there are 100 viewers for each poster).  I heard from no less than 5 people this weekend at tailgate, most popular question, "hey who is WatervilleMaineSkier)?

Why a need to petition?

... OK just saw the SR post for discontinuance.  There is a pretty hefty monthly/annual cost associated with NING accounts - depends on number of users and if forum was started when NING was just getting started (which SRCB was).

I run two NING boards for other reasons - someone has to manage the NING account/site ... and pay.

At the bottom of this page it says Powered by NING maybe they can keep it going.

Keep the message board!!!!

Because we would love to see the board keep going.  This community raises more $$ and does a ton of good so as to more than justify a $600 per year expense.

Thought the number was significantly more than $600.  Will investigate.

With the amount of vids, photos, images, etc. that gets posted here I doubt the $99/mo (500GB) option will support the traffic/content.  Could be, but someone with knowledge of what the current database size is will have to chime in.

Use the money they saved by not keeping more lifts open when the mountain are full of snow,  use the money they saved by not having the areas open that 3 mile trail could of gotten folks to this past weekend. Trails like grand rapids into mixing bowl lower lazy river and back to Barker should have been open. What ever folks can get to from Barker lift should of been fair game with out ducking a rope. They just didn't want to pay patrol to sweep the area. Pathetic !!

Running a NING board is not terribly difficult - primarily cookie-cutter, module driven.  There is configuration/maintenance time involved and possibly some customization for out-of-module functionality, but the existing site appears to use NING-standard functionality.  Simplicity is the reason for NING's higher subscription fees - they've done all the hard work.

The issues involved with some of us recreating a NING forum will be how much (if any) existing content SR will release for import into a new NING account, TM/copyright issues with naming, images, content, etc.  Finally who is going to assume the legal responsibility for guaranteeing payment/onging charges. Without a well established business account, NING will require a CC to bill to.

There are many other platforms - VBulletin being one of the original platforms.  Most others are somewhere between writing code to create a DB driven forum and using existing code to piece a relational database together with the functionality desired.  Either way it can be hosted on someone's existing server or farmed out to a cloud storage provider.  VBulletin is less user friendly and is a bear to manage unless that's what you do for a (co)living.

Of course there's FB as previously mentioned, along with Twitter, Instagram, and other existing social media platforms to build upon - nothing free will quite duplicate what exists here.  Personally, I rarely go on FB despite having accounts from the very beginning.

Those trails were closed?  MD, you really need to get a split board.

Anyone second?

Add this to the long list of poor decisions this year.
