I was not there - but just amazing being able to get 101 trails and trail sections opened up to the vacation week crowd. Between midnight and 8:17am 101 trails - unbelievable.
Meanwhile, the SL crew was only able to till 33 during the same period. We not only had windhold all day on the Superquad, but double runner was on grooming hold at opening bell this AM.
How was it in Newry today??

C'mon dude, was a tough day all over, probably didn't matter where you were, wherever else you wanted to be was having their own issues.

I understand wind holds, mechanical holds etc. Heck, I ski Sugarloaf. The thread is meant as a compliment, albiet with some jealousy. SR groomed over 100 trails between midnite and 8:17am. SL groomed 33 in the same period. SR is spread out over multiple peaks, SL is ONE big Motha.
Had there been no wind or other lift issues, SR opens with 101 trail and trail sections, SL opens with 33, all west of gondi line. I just think that is an interesting dynamic. Don't you?

The grooming crew put a lot of work into planning their attack then getting the job done. Snowmakers often get all the glory, but our grooming crew is world-class and their handiwork is on display every morning.

Permalink Reply by MonkeyBrook on February 20, 2011 at 6:23pm Mark, I love SR as much as anyone but SR is not even in same discussion with Whister. Like comparing the Yankees (or Red Sox if you chose) to a t-ball game. Grooming? Really? Whistler averages over 500" of snow a year.
Permalink Reply by WatervilleMESkier on February 20, 2011 at 7:12pm Indeed - a job well done - I am not a groomer terrain fan, but it is critical after a rain/thaw/deep freeze event like we just had. Awful timing leading into the big week. Cudos to your crew for giving vacationers the best possible experience.
FYI - I am coming to SR on Thurs/Fri for the 1st time since 1990. SL will have had enough of me by then. Watch out Newry/Bethel/Locke Mills skiers!

Permalink Reply by Markarina on February 20, 2011 at 7:27pm Like said they had a bad year, they only had 397 that year!, just my luck huh.
Either way the comment about grooming still stands, Whistler doesn't have a patch on Sunday River in that respect.

Permalink Reply by Glade Monkey on February 21, 2011 at 8:29am 53" at Whistler mid-station in the past week. They say 161 of 200 trails are groomed.
I only looked because of your post and my family's vacation vote ended up with a CRUISE in April rather than being out there right now...
C'est la vie - off to Quebec as a consolation!
