So I'm really looking forward to heading up to the mountain with the family this weekend for Fall Fest and to get the kid's all fitted for another season at Gould Freestyle.

I've proactively gone to the SR site to see the breakdown of events and it's all straightforward. I'm on every mailing list and I've received no mention of Fall Fest to date, which is weird.

However, what I'm completely boggled by is the fact that is NO mention of Troy Murphy's fundraiser which is right across town the same weekend. Not to mention the Gould sale, again, across town.

I realize that these could be classified as "competing" events, but is that really the case?

I'm really surprised that you have an Olympic athlete competing in the world's largest stage next Feb who is a local, humble, incredibly nice man, representing Bethel and SR (by extension) and the mountain rarely if ever mentions him.

Of course the cynic in me say the mountain is waiting for the Olympics to tout their local hero for marketing purposes, but I'm consistently surprised, not only by the continued lack of cross promotion of Bethel-based events, but also the muted mention of Troy's accomplishments.

By and large the SR marketing team does an amazing job, but the lack of outward support of Troy seems to come down from corporate.

The mountain has never played up Troy. I wouldn't expect it now.  They didn't do it with Simon either outside of Dumont Cup.  As for fall fest, show up at 1 PM at South Ridge, there you go.....SR does a great job w Fall Fest (homecoming weekend).

I don't know anything about the fundraiser or sale. Care to give us some links?

The other side to promoting Troy's (/Simon's/other's) accomplishments would be people perceiving SR as capitalizing from the athlete's own hard work and dedication.  Dana and his team speak very highly and very proudly of the accomplishments (athletic and academic) of Bethel/Newry area youth.  Nothing to be cynical about when it comes to that.  No corporate directives.

Promo of Gould/Gould athlete causes is really more a responsibility of Gould/SRSSC.

Just to be clear, I wasn't being negative or cynical I know the mountain is proud of both.  Agree w Sitz.  Just not something the mt does and I am sure Troy is OK w it.  He has a huge following who support him.

They are short sighted on things like this, every year at least dozens of skiers and snowboarders head out to compete at Nationals or free ski regionals that are based out off The River and crickets on websites or social media.

Well, we know the mountain helps and supports racing.  Just look at the new Bear Paw trail (granted it is a better novice path in that it doesn't cut across multiple trails too) and T72 before it.  It is probably a a slippery area to promote.  Gould is the program that produces the athletes, not a part of the mountain.  In the case of Troy's fundraiser, if it was held at the SR Golf Club and the mountain didn't make a mention of it, that would be odd.  But I can totally understand not mentioning it with the even held across town.

I am quite certain the mountain is fully behind our on snow athletes and programs, but they have never been out front promoting them.  I agree that is more Gould and SRSSC's area.

Bumping out the BOC

What is up with the ski shop being closed Monday this year??!!  Grrrrr
