While heading toward town on the access road this morning, the Sherriff and SP were set up at the entrance to the Matterhorn stopping the incoming traffic. There were a few cars pulled to the side in the lower lot of the Matterhorn and several other cruisers heading in that direction. Anyone know what was going on? Early morning DUI stop for the inbound college kids?

We saw it to didn't get stopped but about six cars in the parking lot being searched.

Thats not cool.

If they were looking for stolen skis it would be cool.  Laudatory, even.

But going all police-state on college kids for having a six-pack in the car, no, that's not cool.

Got my daughter in law for expired inspection. 135 dollar fine.

Boyne must be p****** someone off.

Why alienate your base in a town that depends on tourism?

Bad location,  right after the S turn.  I think the speed limit is still 30mph as the road straightens out.  Easy to be doing 40, get pulled over, and then get the 3rd degree...  BPD is no more, so Oxford Co. Sheriff is the local PD....

Great selling point for next year's college week huh?

Stupid is as stupid does. I agree with KC. Good thing my Ambien wore off, I didn't remember having breakfast! Wait a minute, there might be a ticket on my dashboard.

Good point KC...Last thing we (SR) wants is to have a reputation like the Waterville Access Road. I got a ticket for going 46 in a 40 there a few years ago. All the more reason to stay away from the place. So I guess the Matterhorn was ok with them letting them use their lower lot to pinch drivers???

state police there last week as well  had someone pulled over in am i left sr around 1 state pd set up in horn parking lot :(

It sounds like they're using the police to increase revenue for local municipalities.  Remember that next time there's a bunch of thugs on-mountain stealing skis.

When seconds matter, the police are only minutes away.

I recall OZSkier getting nabbed years ago just as he crossed from SR roads to public below the Summit entry road.  The access road gets "worked" periodically.
