Figured we need a hockey thread with the season about to start.  Don't have real high expectations for the Bruins, but maybe they'll surprise me.

Starting with a throwback to 20 years ago today, which was the closing date of the original Boston Garden. On September 28, 1995, the Boston Garden closed for good after one final exhibition game between the Bruins and the Canadiens.

Many, many great memories there for me...Bruins games, Dead shows (among many others), Celtics on occasion, Ringling Bros circus as a kid, and the list goes on.

Here's one of the pics from the article...I remember in late 1995 driving out of Boston and heading for the loaf, the Garden was half torn down, exposing the inside.  I stopped and bought a single use camera and took a ton of pics...of course I have no idea where they are now but they looked a lot like this...

And of course one gratuitous Bruins pic...

Yeah and life was so much better without electricity or indoor plumbing. Old Tyme Living, baby!

Bruins have had the Habs number a bit more as of late.  Well except for last year.  I despise those snotty Quebecsicans.

Go Habs!!!!!!

Glad you added "well except for last year" because I had to buy a lot of beer to pay off a lot of bets after the Habs swept the Bs in the reg season last year.  And it actually has been the last two seasons that rouge et blanc has beat up on the black and gold...Montreal took 3 of 4 regular season games in 13-14 (Bs has a 12-game home winning streak against them prior to that) and then beat the Bs in 7 in the conf semis, and of course last year the Habs swept the season series 4-0.  Unfortunately I don't really see that changing much this year.

3 on 3 = Shoot out = NOT hockey IYAM

real hockey........ 3 forwards 2 defense men 1 goaler....... small barns........ small ice sheets... you know...  Olde Tyme Hockey

5 extra minutes, if no one scores, everyone leaves the ice in shame

So this is for Junior, since you are all bringing up "Old Time Hockey"

Did you catch last night's game in the old War Memorial arena in Johnstown, PA between Pens and Tampa???  followed by the classic "Slapshot" on NBCSN.........Way to ruin a classic film..Bob Costas

I think that is an accurate statement about Winners.

I played a ton of Hockey growing up and did a bunch of hockey exchange trips in Squirts, Peewee and Bantam Hockey years up to Montreal.  We played the East End Hockey Club.  Our team would go up there and we would stay with host families and then they would come down here and stay.  I learned first hand exactly what the expectation for young hockey players are up there.  After all they really do not have much else as a city for Pro sports.  Their fervor is certainly high for the sport. I can totally understand that.  But they are spoiled and did not suffer through years of bad teams with Sh*tty management from an owner from an other city that only cared about profits.

Bruins fans filled the arena even in the bad years.  The Montreal fans if faced with the same situation would boo their team and head for the exits.

No one has the right to be snobby.  We all play the same sport and the rules are the same.  They have no special understanding or privilege pertaining to the game.   That is my educated opinion on this matter.

That was clearly about hockey fan bases.  Why did you have to make the jump over this community?  After all, you get that impression because you don't make the effort to meet these guys so that is what you get.  This would change is you just uncloaked even once.  Just sayin.

I am glad Rippy is here on the SR Forum. He speaks the truth and sees things for what they are. He needs to stay, and he needs to continue to contribute. He calls it like he sees sit, just like me. Without Rippy, this place would be nothing more than a circle jerk of rose colored glass wearing cheating and lying patsy fans.

Rippy = Truth. You knuckleheads could learn a lot from him. Especially you cheatriot fans.

Bow peep is a troll.  If he was like you, we all (or at least one of us) would have met him and we'd know that his antics were based on the concept of busting on each other.  What he spews is vitriol which is unnecessary and unwelcome.  We'd all be better off if he'd crawl back into his h*** and stay there...I know that isn't going to happen because he apparently gets off on being an a$$hat and would rather remain an anonymous internet tough guy rather than be part of a community (not sure he even gets the concept).

Until 1969, the rules were not quite the same. Montreal had an unfair advantage when it came to drafting players. Rule changed and voila....the Bruins had a couple championships around that same time.

It is still fun to watch games in Montreal,  especially on Saturday nights. Still hate 'em though
