We're only about a month away from what should be the most wide open TDF in a very long time. This year's Giro D' Italia was probably the most exciting Grand Tour since Lemond's 8 second win in the 1989 TDF and a few new names emerged as potential TDF contenders....Basso, Niblai, Porte could create a lot of drama. In addition, Andy Shleck and Fabian Cancellara could also come up with big rides. Contador is obviously the favorite, but I don't think he's going to have an easy ride. It'll be interesting to see how he performs with a team that's supporting him instead of undermining him. I still think Contador is the best stage racer in the world and he is
very focused on preparing for the Grand Tours. He's my pick to win it.

Armstrong, IMO is no longer a podium contender in a Grand Tour. He's had a terrible early season and just looks way out of shape. Plus, he's got the Landis emails weighing on him. With any luck, the investigations the Landis emails have instigated will get his ass tossed out of the sport. Otherwise, I fear he could become another Cal Ripkin....taking up a slot in the lineup so he can break some stupid record.

Rippy, you starting this nonsense with Lance again? Like last year, you are nuts. Floyd Landis has "zero credibility". If you think Lance is worried about it, you are crazy. Cal Ripken?? WTF are you talking about. Great first post. Team RS will be a serious contender in the Tour. Lance is building up to that event....he was riding well in Tour de Cali...crash hurt him.....stay tuned, I dont think Lance will disappoint.
Hook set ! (wink)

Meaning what....podium finish? top 20 ?
Basso looked great in the Gyro. It was interesting to see Cadel and Vino get crushed in some of the key stages. It sounds like Cadel was sick but riding all those mountains sick is a feat in itself. Contrador is certainly strong but I think his team is not nearly as strong as Saxo or even Radio Shack. This will certainly put some strain on him and will make him work isolated a lot more. I guess we will see if he can do it solo.
What's more interesting to me is the Lance comments. Why toss him out of the sport? You make it sound like he has committed a huge sin against racing. Face it, if he is guilty of anything then they all are. Why not condemn all of racing?
The way I look at it is this. He has certainly, by himself, brought cycling into the USA mainstream more than any other person. This is great for the future of USA Cycling. He also continues to produce funding and awareness to a disease that has impacted my family and probably most others. Again probably more than any other athlete. At this point, what is the point of villanizing him and destroying the two great by products of his legacy? What so you can proove a point? Because you don't like his attitude or politics? That is a very small view of the big picture I must say.
Here we go again with Rippy and his anti-Lance/swinging off Contador's nads stuff.
Great post Rippy, shows how LITTLE you know about pro cycling.
Love Rippy's comments about Basso...isnt this the same guy that was banned for 2 years? Comical about Lance...just got my Livestrong magazine in the mail....amazing to see how much Lance has done for cancer, and I am in the cancer world....guy doesnt get nearly enough credit. In definition of "American Hero"...no one fits the bill more than Lance...perido.

But I appreciate Rippy getting this started...I am sure he is laughing about our pro-lance comments....this will get fun.

And yes, Lance will be in this race from start to finish..his team is strong and they are focused.

What are the dates for this, and anyone know who is carrying the TV coverage?

Another Lance hater? Damn, guy never gets cut any slack. My only problem with Armstrong is those LIVESTRONG bracelets are made in China, but I have mine.
The TDF starts on July 3rd and is covered on Versus. They usually do a live early show and a condensed show at 8 pm that night.
Great few weeks during the summer. Vs shows constant action, love Bob Roll and Phil Legitt....not sure why but I enjoy cycling on TV more than most sports. Speaking of cycling, slow day today...heading out for 50+ in a few minutes...enjoy.

He had a rough start but is gaining strength. I will go out on a limb to say that he will podium out of sheer will because that is who he is.

Where ya been for the last 12 years?......pretty sure "all of racing" has been condemned. In fact that's one of the reasons I think he was doping. There was nothing in his pre-cancer palmares that would indicate he could win the TDF 7 times. In fact, the few times he started it, he didn't even finish. He was, at that time, a "good" one day racer. Take a look at the top 10 on GC in his 7 tour wins and see how many of those guys have been implicated in doping scandals. Plus over half his team has come out and admitted they were doping or have been caught doping. He simply just wasn't that good.
Really?...I'd love to learn more from someone who's really plugged into to the pro peloton as yourself. Take me to school !!! What do ya think ?

If he's convicted of doping, he'll have singlehandly done more damage to cycling in the US than anyone.

You really think he should get a pass on doping just because of his cancer foundation ? Think about that...you're accusing me of having a small picture, while you use your own personal situation as an example of why he deserves some slack. Really...think about that .
